Why a Small Group Picnic?

Coming Saturday August 23rd!!
Small Group

Gathering
and
 Summer Games

$2,000 in prizes
for your small group’s favorite causes.

I wanted to do something church wide to help us remember we are a vibrant,  lively body of believers.  Back in the day (20 years ago) I was so proud to call Grace “my church”.  It was part of my identity.  We have grown so much since then that the community and bond feels stretched.  I felt very strongly (prompted?) about bringing us all together for some fun and fellowship.

I know picnic games can be lame but they are a great way to increase contact (literally!) and teamwork.  I thought if we could run some first class games (digital scales for measuring, uniformed referees with whistles, video photo finishes, announcer, white lined playing field, massive scoreboard) and offer big prizes for a good cause, we might create some great memories.

If you long for that sense of belonging and are proud to be a Grace church member come on out August 23rd (rain date 24th).  See the “Details” blog for well…details.

2.       Over - Under  A team of 5 from your small group will line up all facing single file.  First player will fill a sponge at one end of the line, pass it over the one in front of him who then passes under the next player and so on until it reaches the 5th player who will empty it into a bucket then run back to the start. The winner is the team with the most water by weight at the end of two minutes.  Winners of each heat will compete for first, second and third place points for their small groups.

3.       Civil War  All small groups members wishing to play  (space allowing) will line up. One-half will face the other half( whose backs are turned)!  Sides take turns with volleys of water balloons.  Those who are hit with balloon (not just water) are out.  Last 3 men standing receive first, second and third place points for their small groups.

4.       Old Fashioned Water Balloon Toss  2 members from each small groups line up facing team-mate and toss a water balloon to teammate opposite.  After each toss teams both take a step backward and repeat.   Last 3 players standing receive first, second and third place points for their small groups.

5.       Chariot race  3 representatives from each small group compete against other “chariots”.  Two members pull a tarp (each small group must supply their own “tarp” of their own choosing) on which the third team member rides.  They must go the length of the course, around the pylon and back.  Winners of each heat will compete for first, second and third place points for their small groups.
